(February 14, 2008) -- An Army Reserve CH-47D helicopter from the 159th Aviation Regiment, based in Fort Eustis, Va., hovers directly above an 11-meter rigid-hull inflatable boat (RIB) during an evolution of Maritime External Air Transportation System (MEATS) along the Pearl River. Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewmen (SWCC) on board rig the boat to the helicopter with specter slings, and use a caving ladder to board the aircraft. The CH-47D can transport the RIB over land or water, nearly doubling the traveling distance of the special operations craft, saving time and fuel.
